Top 5 Tuesday: Why I Blog

Normally I take part in Top Ten Tuesday, but I feel like I need a change because I’m always mentioning the same books each week. I’ve seen Top 5 Tuesday around quite a bit, and I loved the topic for this weeks top 5 so I had to join in!

Top 5 Tuesday is run by BionicBookWorm and each week there are interesting topics to talk about. The main reason I love this weeks theme about the reasons why I blog, is because I don’t think I’ve ever talked about my reasons for doing it – but now I can!

I love books

This is probably the main reason why I blog. I’ve loved reading since I was in infant school, and because I had selective mutism when I was younger, I spent the majority of my time reading. Reading has always been a safe place for me where I don’t have to worry about anything else, so I’m really thankful that they’re still such a huge part of my life and I can share my love of books with everyone else!

I want to go into publishing

My love of books has always been part of who I am and I couldn’t imagine going into a career that wasn’t centred around books. I would love to release my own book one day, but I don’t really have the imagination or confidence to do that, so publishing is definitely what I want to do. There are so many amazing books out there, and I would love to someday be a part of the publishing process.

To talk about books

A lot of my friends don’t read, or don’t read as much as I do, so I never have anyone to talk about my favourite books to. Ever since creating this blog, I’ve been able to talk about books, recommend books (basically fangirl all the time), and discover new books that I never would have picked up without other blogger’s recommendations.

A place to relax

I created this blog when I was in my first year of Uni, where I thought I knew all about stress until I started third year – I won’t even talk about how much I’m stressing about third year. My blog has always been a place that I don’t have to worry about anything, I can log in and focus on books instead of everything going on in my life. I’ve never felt any pressure when it comes to blogging, and I’m free to talk about whatever I want.

To learn new skills

I feel like this is probably a weird reason for why I blog. I’ve already mentioned that I’m a student, but I’m a student with bad planning skills, bad organisation and bad time management. I didn’t originally create my blog to help me with this intention but somehow it’s really helped. I plan my blog posts and dedicate time to writing them which has encouraged me to do the same for university assignments. I’ve not completely mastered these skills, but they’re really helping me and I’ve definitely noticed a difference, particularly in the last year.

What are some of the reasons why you blog?

  1. Books are cool. I like to read books by Dean Koontz. He has a good new one out now called: The Silent Corner. It’s in Barnes & Noble books. I’d like to buy it. I also like self-help, if it isn’t too “fluff” or hype. Reading what some Philosophers thought is fun for me, too.

You want to go into Publishing? One thing I am quite curious about, when it comes to Publishing: How does one format, space, and do page-layout before sending your manuscript into a publisher? What exactly should an individual person/writer use for Software? To pick out the font, and spacing, and page-margins, and so-on. “A million” people talk about writing online and encourage others to also do so. To”go for it!” and hopefully get published. Good! But how? OK, so you’ve got your message, your story, and your ready to write it. The words are flowing and you’re “in the Zone”. But what writing/printing/publishing software should you use? I wish more people would write or share about that.

    1. I’ve always wondered that as well. I think there’s some sort of software out there that converts the document into a book format, but I could be making that up! I would be really interested to see more people talk about that side of writing.

  2. I love your list and I would’ve never thought of some of these! I’ve never thought about my blog as a place to relax, but it is for me most days. 🙂

  3. Fantastic list!! Whenever I need to relax I write something for my blog or respond to likes and comments. It immediately takes me away from all the stressful things and puts me back into my happy place! You want to go into publishing?! I envy you! Wish you all the best!
Thanks SO much for sharing and participating! Added you to the participants list 🙂

    1. Thank you for creating this, I really loved the topic!
It’s great how blogs are such a good place to relax, I don’t know what I’d do without it now haha.
Thank you! I’m hoping that publishing is going to be as amazing as I imagine it to be!
