Top 5 Tuesday: Bookish Pet Peeves

This week’s Top 5 Tuesday theme is ‘Bookish Pet Peeves’ and I am so ready for this one! I don’t think I have ever discussed any of my pet peeves before, so this should be really fun.

If you want to participate in Top 5 Tuesday, make sure to check out Shanah’s blog here!

Cover Changes Halfway Through a Series

Sometimes cover changes are a good thing, and I’m all for them but not when they’re done halfway through a series. At least wait until the series is complete!

Different Sized Paperbacks

I used to think that all paperbacks were a standard size… but apparently not. There’s the ones that I call ‘normal sized’, then there’s the floppy slightly taller ones, and then there’s the huge ones that may as well be hardbacks. I just don’t understand why there’s so many different sizes!

There are no words for how annoyed I get whenever a book has insta-love. NOPE. Not a fan.

Not being able to avoid spoilers

There are so many books that have been spoiled for me on social media. I don’t actively search for spoilers but every now and then on twitter, instagram or goodreads, I’ll see spoilers for a book I’m really excited to read. It doesn’t put me off reading the book, but I prefer going into a book knowing nothing about it so it’s always really disappointing when it’s impossible to avoid a spoiler!

I saved my biggest pet peeve for last. I could probably write an essay on why I hate stickers so much! I used to think stickers were cool when I was little, but not anymore. I own so many books that have left over stickers on them because they are so difficult to remove. I understand why stickers are put on books, but it needs to stop because it’s so easy for the stickers to ruin the books!

What are some of your bookish pet peeves?

  1. There seriously needs to be a book size police – why are they all different sizes?! It could be the same publisher printing a book on the same day but two books are 2 different sizes. It makes NO sense at all!!
Thanks so much for participating – added you to the list 🙂

  2. I hate having instalove in books, it drives me insane!! I feel like there really should be some sort of build up to romances, not just love at first sight. Cover changes and the sizes of books are another thing that really irritates me as I like to have all of my book match and look nice next to each other on my shelves.

    1. I agree! It’s always so much more satisfying when there’s a build up to the romance. I try to organise my books by size, but it’s always so difficult due to all the different sizes!

  3. I absolutely ABHOR when the book becomes a movie and then the publishers suddenly decide it’s okay to change the perfectly fine book cover to a movie cover – ugh that just annoys me.
