Top 5 Tuesday: Science Fiction Books I Want to Read

This week’s Top 5 Tuesday is all about our favourite science fiction books! After scrolling through Goodreads for a while, I realised that I haven’t actually read that many sci-fi books. However, there is a couple that I have read that would make my favourites list, but unfortunately there isn’t enough to make a list of 5! Instead I thought I would mention the sci-fi books that I want to read because there’s a few out there that I’m really intrigued by. It’s a genre I rarely reach for but I want to change that so hopefully this weeks topic will introduce me to some more books from that genre.

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm. If you’re interested in participating, or checking out Shanah’s blog, click here!

Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

This series is at the top of my list because I’ve heard so many amazing things about it! I’m actually planning on reading this very soon. I’ve purchased two of the books on my kindle because they were really cheap, and I’m almost certain that I’ll be reading them whilst I’m in Scotland in a few weeks.

Heart of Iron by Ashley Poston

I’ve heard that this is an Anastasia retelling but set in space and I am so down for that. That’s the only information I know about the book but I’m already looking forward to seeing what I think of it!

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

This series has been on my TBR list for about a year now, but I keep putting it off. I’ve heard so many good things about it and I’m so worried that I won’t enjoy it. There’s a lot of books to catch up on as well but I’m hoping to try out the first book before the end of the year!

Nyxia by Scott Reintgen

I got an ARC of this book in one of Illumicrate’s boxes last year but I never got around to reading it. Sci-fi is usually one of the last genres I reach for but I’m really annoyed at myself for not reading this sooner because it sounds so good. Now I can’t decide whether to read the ARC or get a finished copy!

Invictus by Ryan Graudin

I was sold on this book as soon as I heard that it involved time travel. I just love the whole concept of time travel and this one sounds really interesting!

What are some of your favourite sci-fi novels?

    1. Me neither, I don’t know what it is about the genre, but I can never get into it! I’m hoping that will all change once I’ve read Illuminae though, because it sounds amazing.

  1. You got some fantastic scifi books to try!

the good news, for anyone who isn’t into scifi, or doesn’t know where to start, is that there is a bazillion subgenres of scifi. Do you like YA romance? there are scifi YA romances. do you like The Hunger Games, or Harry Potter, or How I Met Your Mother, or K-pop, or classical music or time travel or fashion or youtube or painting or history or whatever it is that you’re into right now? there are scifi books that are into that stuff too. science fiction is a way bigger universe than ever these days!

    1. I love that sci-fi has expanded so that it interests so many more people. I always used to avoid it because I only ever saw alien books and that got pretty boring after a while! There’s only so many alien books I could handle haha

  2. Oh my gosh READ NYXIA! I love it to pieces, and the sequel is coming out this year I think! It’s a great story, lots of diverse characters too! There’s sorta a bit of Insta love in there, but I actually found I didn’t have a problem with it in the end. I hope you get around to reading it soon! Great post, by the way!
