Friday Favourites: May

May was such a great month for me; I finally finished University, I got a 2:1 in my dissertation, got an offer to study for a masters degree and I hit 300 followers on my blog! I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who follows my blog, and comments on my posts, I honestly don’t know what I’d do without this blog. love blogging so much and raving about all of my favourite books and it’s crazy that there’s now 300 people who want to read these posts, thank you again!

May was also a great month in terms of my favourites list because I’ve had so much more free time to read, watch TV and do a lot of other things. It’s definitely been weird adjusting to all this time off, but it’s meant that I can get back to doing what I love, which is reading and blogging – so here are all of my favourites for the month of May…

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows

I did manage to read quite a few books this month, but I didn’t enjoy them half as much as I enjoyed this one which is why this is the only book I’ll be mentioning. I already had high hopes when I started this book because I’d heard so many amazing things about it, but somehow, it still managed to exceed my expectations!

I love how the authors decided to retell the history of Lady Jane Grey but do so in a completely original and crazy way. I didn’t really know much about Lady Jane Grey, I’d heard of her and her short reign, but that was about it. I know that this wasn’t a completely accurate retelling, and that’s made very clear from the beginning of the book and the many twists that the authors create, but I already know that I prefer their version of history to the real version. I was laughing so much whilst reading this book and it’s become a new favourite of mine!

I’ve been on a bit of a historical binge at the moment, from the books I’ve been reading to the shows I’ve been watching. I couldn’t find any historical programmes that interested me so I decided to rewatch Reign for the billionth time. It’s one of my all time favourite shows and it’s partly to blame for my obsession with Scottish history. Despite being half Scottish, I don’t actually know that much about its history, so books and tv shows are where I get most of my info from! Like My Lady Jane, Reign isn’t 100% historically accurate but it’s such an underrated show that more people need to watch.

I’ve just realised this is the third historical favourite in this list and I’m completely okay with that. I think it’s very obvious that I had an obsession with history throughout May! I attempted to catch up with Outlander because I had fallen so far behind, I think I got halfway through season three before I managed to stop myself watching more. I realised season four isn’t out until the end of the year, so I want to save the rest of the episodes until it’s closer to the season four air date so I don’t forget things… Plus the wait for the next season won’t seem as long that way!

Sims 4

I don’t usually mention games in my favourites because I very rarely have the time to play them, but I know that I’m going to be playing a lot of games this summer! Sims 4 is just the beginning of this because it’s one of those games that I can play for hours and hours without getting bored.

What are some of the things that you enjoyed in May?

  1. Congrats on getting into a masters program and getting 300 followers! Seemed like you had a great month. I watched Reign a while back and I really want to get back into it since I remember being addicted to it for a while!

  2. Congrats on finishing University, Rose!! That’s so amazing, I hope you’re very proud of yourself. 💗

I used to follow Reign rigorously, but somewhere along the way I lost interest in the storyline, and never finished it … I do love Adelaide Kane, though, she’s so beautiful!
