Top 5 Tuesday: Books That BookTube Made Me Buy

Happy Tuesday! This week’s Top 5 Tuesday theme is books that we purchased because of booktube/blogging and it’s already a post that I was planning on doing anyway which I’m really excited about. I used to spend a lot of my time on YouTube before I discovered WordPress, so the booktube community has influenced my book buying habits quite a lot, more than I first thought! Thankfully, I’ve been introduced to a lot of amazing books though which is always a great thing.

Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Shanah at Bionic Book Wormif you’re interested in participating or checking out Shanah’s blog, click here!

Illuminae Files by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

23395680

This series was everywhere, no matter what social media I used, I always ran into so many people discussing these books. At first I ignored all the reviews because I thought that I wouldn’t enjoy the books as they were sci-fi and I don’t usually get on with sci-fi books. I just recently finished the series and I hate myself a little bit for not reading them sooner because they really are amazing. If it hadn’t been for the book community constantly talking about these books and how good they were, I probably wouldn’t have picked them up and I would have seriously missed out!

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

9780316273497

I first heard about this book on Sasha Alsberg’s YouTube (abookutopia) and as soon as I heard the synopsis I immediately went searching for the book. It’s not one that I would have found without Sasha’s recommendation because as far as I’m aware it was never stocked in UK book stores so I probably wouldn’t have ever found it on my own. Thanks to online shopping I was able to get hold of a copy and I fell in love with the book so much, it was definitely worth the hassle of trying to get hold of it haha!

My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Aston, and Jodi Meadows

22840421

This is another book that I saw everywhere I went and as soon as I heard that it was historical fiction, I knew I needed it. It also helped that there were so many positive things said about the book so I was already hoping that it would be a book I’d love and now it’s become one of my favourite books!

Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan

Rick Riordan’s books are ones that I am constantly mentioning on my blog because I love them so, so, so much. But I probably wouldn’t have read them if it hadn’t been for Christine from Polandbananas books on YouTube. She was always talking about how amazing the books were and I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t read them already because I love mythology books. I quickly picked up the books and flew through them and now they’re some of my all time favourites – I still really wish that I had read them when I was younger though!

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson

I had heard a lot about Morgan Matson when Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour was released but I never picked the book up or read any of her work until Since You’ve Been Gone was released. It was a book that everyone was talking about on YouTube and it was one that I just couldn’t wait to read once I’d heard about it. Morgan Matson is now one of my favourite authors so I’ll always be grateful that I found her books through YouTube!

What are some books that you discovered through the book community?

  1. This world be a tough category for me, the only book I can think of that booktube influenced me to buy would Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire.

    1. That’s understandable, the amount of times I’ve still picked up a book knowing it’s a genre I won’t enjoy is ridiculous. I definitely need to get better at saying no to certain books haha.
