Happy Tuesday!
This week’s Top 5 Tuesday topic is another fun one as it’s all about our least favourite tropes!
Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm and each week there’s a different bookish topic to discuss. If you’re interested in participating, or checking out Shanah’s blog, click here!
Love Triangles
I just hate all the unnecessary drama that comes along with love triangles, it’s just so pointless and gets incredibly boring. The only love triangle that I’ve ever enjoyed was the one between Will, Tessa, and Jem in The Infernal Devices but that’s because it was done so well, and all the characters respected each other.
Girl Hate
I don’t really know what this trope is called, but it’s basically where there are no female friendships in books and instead all the female characters hate each other. Usually this is for no reason as well, and to me, it’s another pointless trope. It’s 2018, why is girl hate still a thing in books???
Insta-love
There’s honestly nothing worse than insta-love in books. There never seems to be any build up or suspense or anything like that which just gets so boring. I’m all for the slow burn relationships!
‘Perfect’ Characters
No character can be perfect, it’s just impossible. What’s the point of writing a character who has no flaws or has no potential for character development?
Predictable Events
I hate reading a book and after the first few chapters guessing something is going to happen. It gets so disappointing because I always want to be surprised when it comes to any important event in a book, but when I can guess exactly what’s going to happen, I almost feel like I’ve wasted my time. I just want some twists and turns thrown in, and for it not to be as obvious in the first chapters what will actually happen.
I hate love triangles with a burning passion!

I just don’t get how they’re still around in books! I don’t think I know of anyone who really enjoys love triangles, everyone hates them haha!

Totally agree, especially about love triangles! I hate it when one character is vacillating between two others…

Me too! I always feel like they’re unrealistic.

AH I HATE PERFECT CHARACTERS! I feel like no one ever says this! I love morally flawed or grey characters! Give me a hero with a dark side! Give me a hero who kills someone out of revenge! Give me someone really gritty and not always perfect. Give me a girl with her face covered in scars or the guy with the crooked teeth that make his smile adorable!

So true, they feel the most genuine!

YES! Every love triangle is horrible, except for the one in TID. That one was actually done so well!

I don’t think there will ever be another love triangle that’s as good as TID!

I’m over dystopias. I’m also over every female protag being short, with brown hair.

Haha that’s very specific! I’m fed up of dystopias too which is such a shame because it is a good genre. It gets tiring reading the same plot in every dystopian book though.
