Happy Tuesday!
I think I’ve only DNF’d one book before and that was The Boneless Mercies. I always try my hardest not to DNF a book because I want to see each book through to the end. I know that it’s probably not the best thing to do but I hate feeling like I’ve wasted my time with a book, and the ending can always change everything.
I don’t have a list of 5 books this week because there haven’t been many that I’ve wanted to DNF before. I’m sure there is ones where I’ve really wanted to put them down, but I don’t think the majority of the time I was glad I finished them which made it so difficult to come up with this list.
Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm and each week there’s a different bookish topic to discuss. If you’re interested in participating, or checking out Shanah’s blog, click here!
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
I actually did put this book down for a long time when I first started reading it. But not because I didn’t enjoy it! I initially started reading it when I had a lot of work to do for University, and I underestimated just how little time I had. I wasn’t able to invest my time properly in this book, and I knew if I forced myself to read this book, it wouldn’t have been one I enjoyed. I picked it up again a couple of months later, and flew through the book, and I’m so glad I did because it’s an incredible book.
Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas
I pretty much contemplate DNF’ing all of Maas’s books. That sounds so bad but I do enjoy the books, especially the ACOTAR series! It’s just that I have to devote a lot of time to reading them because they take me ages to get through. The one I wanted to put down completely was Empire of Storms, it’s my least favourite book in the Throne of Glass series, and I had to force myself to finish it. I’m still determined to finish the series though! I need to read Tower of Dawn before I start Kingdom of Ash, but I’ll be waiting until the Christmas holidays to pick them up when I have a lot of spare time.
I know exactly what you mean about SJM’s books. I do love them, but they are a huge time commitment. I DNF’d Tower of Dawn last month because it was taking me so long to read and I just wanted to get to my spooky October TBR instead, but I think I will try and pick it up again this month so I can get to Kingdom of Ash.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that takes forever to get through them!
I hope you enjoy Tower of Dawn!😊

Speaking of Mrs Maas – Tower of Dawn took me MONTHS to finally get past the first 50 pages. I don’t even know how I forgot about that! I think it’ because her books are so complex and with so many characters. I just started Kingdom of Ash yesterday and it took me forever to get back into the swing of it!

I haven’t even attempted to read Tower of Dawn yet haha. I thought it was a huge book and that’s why I was putting it to one side.. then I saw Kingdom of Ash and that’s even bigger!
I hope you enjoy Kingdom of Ash – I’ve seen so many amazing reviews for it!

Tower of Dawn ended up being one of my favourites in the series! And I almost didn’t want to read it! It was so good that I read through it as fast as possible. I hope you give it a shot despise it’s size 🙂

That’s good to hear! I was a little worried about Tower of Dawn because I know that so many people don’t like Chaol. I’m hoping to get to it over the Christmas period when I have some time off!

I REALLY didn’t like Chaol before reading Tower of Dawn. But after finishing it, he’s now one of my favourites!!

I hardly ever DNF a book either. I haven’t read the Throne of Glass series, but did read ACOTAR and HATED it. So I probably will never read Throne of Glass.

Oh no, that’s such a shame! ACOTAR is by far my favourite out of Maas’s work so far, and I always end up recommending that series over Throne of Glass. I’d definitely avoid the other books if you didn’t like ACOTAR!

I’ve heard people say the opposite thing most of the time. I’m not a huge romance fan, so that’s really my problem with ACOTAR

I don’t usually DNF books either and can probably count the ones I did DNF in one hand. However, I am contemplating DNFing a lot more books in the future because time is precious, too precious to read bad books xD
I also want to give them a chance so they can prove me wrong in the end, but I think I’m over it xD (I just leave them in a very ambiguous “on hold” list now)

I completely agree! It’s always such a difficult decision DNFing books.
I think one of my goals for next year is to not force myself to finish a book if I’m not loving it. I just want to read them all haha!

Yeah I hear you about empire of storms being the hardest to get through in that series- Tower of dawn did pick up- so I hope you like that one more!

I think it may have been because so many new characters and point of views were added in Empire of Storms. Thank you, I hope I do too!😊

Great post! I actually ended up DNF-ing The Hate U Give, but mostly because of the swearing 🙂 I’m glad you ended up enjoying it!
