Although the title for this post seems quite negative, I don’t mean to hate on any of these books. They’re just not ones that I personally enjoyed, and I know that so many other people loved them, but they just weren’t for me for so many different reasons.
There’s not actually many books on this list which I am so happy about! I hate talking negatively about books because I know so much hard work goes into creating them- but you can’t love everything.
Here are the 4 books that I was disappointed by this year…
Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan
I’ve talked a little about my thoughts on this book recently so I don’t want to go into too much detail about it again. I’m partly disappointed in myself with this book for not enjoying it as much as I wanted to, but I just had such high expectations for it. Sadly, it didn’t hit the mark for me. With that being said, I am still looking forward to the next book, I’m just going to go into it with lower expectations and hopefully I’ll be surprised!
The Boneless Mercies by Genevieve Tucholke
I don’t want to be too negative about this book, but I couldn’t even finish it. Whilst I found the concept incredibly interesting, I just couldn’t connect with the plot or the characters. I was able to get through half of the book, but I had to give up in the end because I was just forcing myself to finish it at that point.
War Storm by Victoria Aveyard
I was expecting an epic finale that would have me on the edge of me seat but I found that I wanted to fall asleep instead. I think a lot of it had to do with the pacing which was completely off, it was just so slow in all of the wrong places. There was no action at all, the majority of it was just behind the scenes plotting, which I would have no issue with if it was actually interesting. I’m just so sad because the first book in this series was amazing!
A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas
This book had no plot so there wasn’t really any point in it which I feel so bad for saying. I was so excited about this one because ACOTAR is one of my favourite series and I know that this one was supposed to set up the next few books. But months later and I’m still confused about what this book was supposed to/be.
