September Book Releases

I normally do seasonal book release posts, but it seems like this September, there’s loads of exciting new releases. I’ve lost count at this point how many books are coming out! Maybe it’s something to do with the back to school season? Either way, there’s so many books in September that I’m looking forward to, that I thought I’d make it into a separate post. My normal anticipated releases of Autumn will be coming soon – but won’t feature any books from September.

Here are the September releases that I’m dying to get my hands on.

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

serpent and dove

EXPECTED RELEASE DATE: 3RD SEPTEMBER

Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.

Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.

The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.

And love makes fools of us all.

This is the first release of the month, and probably the one that I’m the most excited about. It’s had amazing reviews so far and is currently sitting at a 4.37 rating on Goodreads. The synopsis doesn’t give too much away but it’s enough for me to *hope* that it’s going to be amazing.

There Will Come a Darkness by Katy Rose Pool

there will come a darkness

EXPECTED RELEASE DATE: 3RD SEPTEMBER

For generations, the Seven Prophets guided humanity. Using their visions of the future, they ended wars and united nations―until the day, one hundred years ago, when the Prophets disappeared.

All they left behind was one final, secret prophecy, foretelling an Age of Darkness and the birth of a new Prophet who could be the world’s salvation . . . or the cause of its destruction. As chaos takes hold, five souls are set on a collision course:

A prince exiled from his kingdom.
A ruthless killer known as the Pale Hand.
A once-faithful leader torn between his duty and his heart.
A reckless gambler with the power to find anything or anyone.
And a dying girl on the verge of giving up.

One of them―or all of them―could break the world. Will they be savior or destroyer?

The synopsis for this one is quite vague… but it’s the kind of vague that makes me really interested in the book. I just want to know so much more about it!

American Royals by Katharine McGee

american royals

EXPECTED RELEASE DATE: 3RD SEPTEMBER

Two princesses vying for the ultimate crown.
Two girls vying for the prince’s heart.
This is the story of the American royals.

When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne. Like most royal families, the Washingtons have an heir and a spare. A future monarch and a backup battery. Each child knows exactly what is expected of them. But these aren’t just any royals. They’re American. And their country was born of rebellion.

As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America’s first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling. Nobody cares about the spare except when she’s breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn’t care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her. And then there’s Samantha’s twin, Prince Jefferson. If he’d been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart.

I’ve been waiting for a book like this for ages and now there’s finally one coming out. I love books about royalty; whether it’s fantasy, real, or an alternate reality (just give me them all!). I’m really looking forward to seeing what this one is like.

Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco

capturing the devil

EXPECTED RELEASE DATE: 10TH SEPTEMBER

Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Cresswell have landed in America, a bold, brash land unlike the genteel streets of London they knew. But like London, the city of Chicago hides its dark secrets well. When the two attend the spectacular World’s Fair, they find the once-in-a-lifetime event tainted with reports of missing people and unsolved murders.

Determined to help, Audrey Rose and Thomas begin their investigations, only to find themselves facing a serial killer unlike any they’ve heard of before. Identifying him is one thing, but capturing him—and getting dangerously lost in the infamous Murder Hotel he constructed as a terrifying torture device—is another.

Will Audrey Rose and Thomas see their last mystery to the end—together and in love—or will their fortunes finally run out when their most depraved adversary makes one final, devastating kill?

This is the fourth, and final, book in the Stalking Jack the Ripper series. I’ve been waiting to read the third book, Escaping From Houdini, so that I can read these two back to back. It’s bittersweet because I’ve really enjoyed the books but at the same time, I’m really looking forward to seeing how it’s all wrapped up.

The Lady Rogue by Jenn Bennett

lady rogue

EXPECTED RELEASE DATE: 10TH SEPTEMBER

Traveling with her treasure-hunting father has always been a dream for Theodora. She’s read every book in his library, has an impressive knowledge of the world’s most sought-after relics, and has all the ambition in the world. What she doesn’t have is her father’s permission. That honor goes to her father’s nineteen-year-old protégé—and once-upon-a-time love of Theodora’s life—Huck Gallagher, while Theodora is left to sit alone in her hotel in Istanbul.

Until Huck arrives from an expedition without her father and enlists Theodora’s help in rescuing him. Armed with her father’s travel journal, the reluctant duo learns that her father had been digging up information on a legendary and magical ring that once belonged to Vlad the Impaler—more widely known as Dracula—and that it just might be the key to finding him.

Journeying into Romania, Theodora and Huck embark on a captivating adventure through Gothic villages and dark castles in the misty Carpathian Mountains to recover the notorious ring. But they aren’t the only ones who are searching for it. A secretive and dangerous occult society with a powerful link to Vlad the Impaler himself is hunting for it, too. And they will go to any lengths—including murder—to possess it.

Historical fiction mixed with fantasy is perfect and this book sounds like it’s got a good mixture of the two.

Slay by Brittney Morris

slay

EXPECTED RELEASE DATE: 24TH SEPTEMBER

By day, seventeen-year-old Kiera Johnson is an honors student, a math tutor, and one of the only Black kids at Jefferson Academy. But at home, she joins hundreds of thousands of Black gamers who duel worldwide as Nubian personas in the secret multiplayer online role-playing card game, SLAY. No one knows Kiera is the game developer, not her friends, her family, not even her boyfriend, Malcolm, who believes video games are partially responsible for the “downfall of the Black man.”

But when a teen in Kansas City is murdered over a dispute in the SLAY world, news of the game reaches mainstream media, and SLAY is labeled a racist, exclusionist, violent hub for thugs and criminals. Even worse, an anonymous troll infiltrates the game, threatening to sue Kiera for “anti-white discrimination.”

Driven to save the only world in which she can be herself, Kiera must preserve her secret identity and harness what it means to be unapologetically Black in a world intimidated by Blackness. But can she protect her game without losing herself in the process?

I saw this everywhere at YALC and I desperately wanted to win a copy. Unfortunately, I wasn’t that lucky however, that hasn’t stopped me from wanting to get my own copy on release day!

There’s loads more books coming out in September, but those are just a selection of the ones that I’m hoping to purchase and read soon. That probably won’t all be at once those because I’m still recovering from my massive YALC splurge haha.

Let me know what September releases you’re the most excited about in the comments!
