Anticipated Book Releases: Summer

I can’t believe it’s already time for my anticipated releases of Summer, I feel like I only did my Spring one a few weeks ago. I thought that there were a lot of amazing books out in Spring, but after making this list I think that Summer wins hands down. There’s so many books that sound incredible and I really can’t wait to get my hands on them. A lot of them are by authors that I’ve never read before so I’m equally excited about discovering new authors as well.

Here are all of the Summer releases that I’m very excited about!

My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Jodi Meadows and Brodi Ashton

36301023

Expected Publication Date: 26th June

I read My Lady Jane last month and fell in love with it so I’m very excited to see what the authors do with this book. I’m hoping that it will be just as funny and amazing! Even though the release date is at the end of this month, I can’t find it online in the UK anywhere so I’m a bit worried that there may be different publication dates for different countries.

You may think you know the story. After a miserable childhood, penniless orphan Jane Eyre embarks on a new life as a governess at Thornfield Hall. There, she meets one dark, brooding Mr. Rochester. Despite their significant age gap (!) and his uneven temper (!!), they fall in love—and, Reader, she marries him. (!!!)

Or does she?

Prepare for an adventure of Gothic proportions, in which all is not as it seems, a certain gentleman is hiding more than skeletons in his closets, and one orphan Jane Eyre, aspiring author Charlotte Brontë, and supernatural investigator Alexander Blackwood are about to be drawn together on the most epic ghost hunt this side of Wuthering Heights.

Bright We Burn by Kiersten White

22817368

Expected Publication Date: 10th July

This is the third and final book in the Conqueror’s trilogy which makes me so incredibly sad. I have loved these books since the moment I read the first line in And I Darken and it’s blown me away so many times. I’m excited to see how everything is wrapped up but I’m really going to miss this series!

Haunted by the sacrifices he made in Constantinople, Radu is called back to the new capital. Mehmed is building an empire, becoming the sultan his people need. But Mehmed has a secret: as emperor, he is more powerful than ever . . . and desperately lonely. Does this mean Radu can finally have more with Mehmed . . . and would he even want it?

Lada’s rule of absolute justice has created a Wallachia free of crime. But Lada won’t rest until everyone knows that her country’s borders are inviolable. Determined to send a message of defiance, she has the bodies of Mehmed’s peace envoy delivered to him, leaving Radu and Mehmed with no choice. If Lada is allowed to continue, only death will prosper. They must go to war against the girl prince.

But Mehmed knows that he loves her. He understands her. She must lose to him so he can keep her safe. Radu alone fears that they are underestimating his sister’s indomitable will. Only by destroying everything that came before–including her relationships–can Lada truly build the country she wants.

Claim the throne. Demand the crown. Rule the world.

Fawkes by Nadine Brandes

36576048

Expected Publication Date: 10th July

I only recently found out about this book and as soon as I heard the premise I knew I wanted to read it. Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder plot is something I learnt a lot about in primary school and it was always something I was really interested in, so I’m really looking forward to seeing the author’s take on the events. I’ve seen quite a few reviews and they’ve all said how amazing this book is so I’ve already got high hopes!

Thomas Fawkes is turning to stone, and the only cure to the Stone Plague is to join his father’s plot to assassinate the king of England.

Silent wars leave the most carnage. The wars that are never declared, but are carried out in dark alleys with masks and hidden knives. Wars where color power alters the natural rhythm of 17th century London. And when the king calls for peace, no one listens until he finally calls for death.

But what if death finds him first?

Keepers think the Igniters caused the plague. Igniters think the Keepers did it. But all Thomas knows is that the Stone Plague infecting his eye is spreading. And if he doesn’t do something soon, he’ll be a lifeless statue. So when his Keeper father, Guy Fawkes, invites him to join the Gunpowder Plot—claiming it will put an end to the plague—Thomas is in.

The plan: use 36 barrels of gunpowder to blow up the Igniter King.

The problem: Doing so will destroy the family of the girl Thomas loves. But backing out of the plot will send his father and the other plotters to the gallows. To save one, Thomas will lose the other.

No matter Thomas’s choice, one thing is clear: once the decision is made and the color masks have been put on, there’s no turning back.

Sea Witch by Sarah Henning

36502054

Expected Publication Date: 31st July

I was sold on this book as soon as I heard that it was a Little Mermaid retelling. I haven’t really read the full synopsis of this book because I want to know as little as possible about it – I want to be completely surprised!

Everyone knows what happens in the end.
A mermaid, a prince, a true love’s kiss.
But before that young siren’s tale, there were three friends.
One feared, one royal, and one already dead.

These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch

29422091

Expected Publication Date: 7th August

Since I finished the Snow Like Ashes trilogy, I’ve been impatiently waiting for Sara Raasch to release a new book and now there isn’t much longer left to wait! I have heard really good things about this book so far and I’m hoping that it will live up to the hype because it sounds like an incredible book. Plus there’s pirates – who doesn’t love pirates?

Adeluna is a soldier. Five years ago, she helped the magic-rich island of Grace Loray overthrow its oppressor, Argrid, a country ruled by religion. But adjusting to postwar life has not been easy. When an Argridian delegate vanishes during peace talks with Grace Loray’s new Council, Argrid demands brutal justice—but Lu suspects something more dangerous is at work.

Devereux is a pirate. As one of the outlaws called stream raiders who run rampant on Grace Loray, he pirates the island’s magic plants and sells them on the black market. But after Argrid accuses raiders of the diplomat’s abduction, Vex becomes a target. An expert navigator, he agrees to help Lu find the Argridian—but the truth they uncover could be deadlier than any war.

Benat is a heretic. The crown prince of Argrid, he harbors a secret obsession with Grace Loray’s forbidden magic. When Ben’s father, the king, gives him the shocking task of reversing Argrid’s fear of magic, Ben has to decide if one prince can change a devout country—or if he’s building his own pyre.

As conspiracies arise, Lu, Vex, and Ben will have to decide who they really are . . . and what they are willing to become for peace.

The Forest Queen by Betsy Cornwell

30977886

Expected Publication Date: 7th August

This is a Robin Hood retelling which I think is probably the one I’m most looking forward to. I had an obsession with the Robin Hood legend and I’ve been waiting for the perfect retelling to be published and this sounds like it could be it!

When sixteen-year-old Sylvie’s brother takes over management of their family’s vast estates, Sylvie feels powerless to stop his abuse of the local commoners. Her dearest friend asks her to run away to the woods with him, and soon a host of other villagers join them. Together, they form their own community and fight to right the wrongs perpetrated by the king and his noblemen.

The Raging Ones by Krista Richie and Becca Ritchie

30301147

Expected Publication Date: 14th August

I’ve never been able to get into the sci-fi genre, but this book and its cover has got me hooked already. It has such an interesting concept and I feel like it could be a book that encourages me to read more sci-fi books, because I’m really missing out!

In a freezing world, where everyone knows the day they will die, three teens break all odds.

Franny Bluecastle, a tough city teen, dreams of dying in opulence, to see wealth she’s never known. Like the entire world, she believes it’s impossible to dodge a deathday.

Until the day she does.

Court Icecastle knows wealth. He also knows pain. Spending five years in Vorkter Prison, a fortress of ice and suffering, he dreams of life beyond the people that haunt him and the world that imprisoned him.

Mykal Kickfall fights for those he loves. The rugged Hinterlander shares a frustrating yet unbreakable connection with Court—which only grows more lawless and chaotic as their senses and emotions connect with Franny.

With the threat of people learning they’ve dodged their deathdays, they must flee their planet to survive. But to do so, all three will have to hide their shared bond as they vie for a highly sought after spot in the newest mission to space. Against thousands of people far smarter, who’ll live longer, and never fear death the way that they do.

Mirage by Somaiya Daud

32768520

Expected Publication Date: 28th August

I wish this book was released sooner because I want to read it right now. It sounds like it’s going to be a book that I really enjoy and I can’t wait to read it!

In a star system dominated by the brutal Vathek empire, eighteen-year-old Amani is a dreamer. She dreams of what life was like before the occupation; she dreams of writing poetry like the old-world poems she adores; she dreams of receiving a sign from Dihya that one day, she, too, will have adventure, and travel beyond her isolated moon.

But when adventure comes for Amani, it is not what she expects: she is kidnapped by the regime and taken in secret to the royal palace, where she discovers that she is nearly identical to the cruel half-Vathek Princess Maram. The princess is so hated by her conquered people that she requires a body double, someone to appear in public as Maram, ready to die in her place.

As Amani is forced into her new role, she can’t help but enjoy the palace’s beauty—and her time with the princess’ fiancé, Idris. But the glitter of the royal court belies a world of violence and fear. If Amani ever wishes to see her family again, she must play the princess to perfection…because one wrong move could lead to her death.

  1. Although this book has already been released I’m really excited to read Save the Date. 🙂 I usually read contemporary, so I don’t really know these books on your list. However, they seem interesting! I hope you like these books!
